Okay so I’m reading Gatsby for the second time this year because my student teacher in a different class wanted to teach a unit on it and I found a note on the first page of my book having a little quick character analysis just off the bat from the first impression that my Lit class got of Nick. It says, “Nick is cynical of the world, especially after the war.”

And while I originally was going to correct my note and be like “not the war, the time spent in New York,” I realized that my original note had this weird depth to it. Nick did go through a war, not just the first world war, but a war within a collapsing society and dream.

This note has become weirdly deep and I don’t know what to do about it.
